Club Meeting – Musical Literacy – Teaching Suzuki Violin

March 19 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Local violinist and Suzuki instructor, Kerry Travers, will offer an engaging ‘show and tell’ of the Suzuki teaching process. Several students including Jessie Evans (daughter of Guy Evans) will be playing violin during the presentation. Kerry reports that “as a Suzuki Violin Teacher, I teach music literacy in a manner very similar to the way that infants and young children learn their native languages. We foster imitation by listening to the pieces which we are preparing to play, give encouragement, do lots or repetition and put off the reading of notes until there is already some mastery of the instrument.” Please join Kerry, Jessie, and other students for an engaging and entertaining program about the Suzuki method of musical instruction and literacy.

Kerry Travers is a violinist and trained violin teacher who uses the Suzuki Method. She has maintained a private studio for over thirty five years in many different communities in Utah and Washington and currently maintains studios in Wenatchee, Cashmere and Chelan. In addition, she has taught at festivals and institutes throughout Washington state.

For the past twenty years Kerry has served in many capacities on the Board of Directors of the Lake Chelan Bach Fest and has been Co-President since 2011.

Kerry performs regularly with her trio “Classic Pizzazz” and is a member of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra. She has four grown children and resides in Chelan with her husband.
